Three ways into the city
From Hamburg Airport (HAM) into the centre you have three options: the S1 suburban train to the main station (about 25 minutes), a metered taxi, or a fixed-price private transfer. Which fits depends on luggage, group size and time of day.
When a private transfer pays off
With lots of luggage, in a group, with children or on an early or late flight, the private transfer is comfortable: door to door, a fixed price from 98 euros, driver waiting at the terminal. The S1 is cheap but you change and carry bags; a taxi is flexible but the price is only clear at the end.
Bottom line
For solo travellers with light luggage the S1 is ideal. As soon as there are more people or bags, the fixed-price private transfer shows its advantages.
