Experience Hamburg before your flight
Do you have time to spare before your return flight, or a stopover in Hamburg? Then make the most of the hours before departure. The city keeps its biggest sights close together, so you can see a lot even with a suitcase in tow. And when it is time to head to Hamburg Airport (HAM) in Fuhlsbuettel, a private airport transfer at a fixed price gets you to your flight relaxed.
The classics: Landungsbruecken, Speicherstadt and the Alster
If you are seeing Hamburg for the first time, start at the Landungsbruecken piers in St. Pauli. Here you breathe in harbour air, watch the big ships and find the Old Elbe Tunnel. From here it is just a short walk along the Elbe to the Speicherstadt, the largest warehouse complex in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The red brick facades above the canals are a perfect photo spot, and nearby you will find Miniatur Wunderland and the Elbphilharmonie in HafenCity.
Quite different but just as beautiful are the Binnenalster and Aussenalster lakes. Right in the heart of the city, sailing boats mirror on the water, while the Jungfernstieg promenade invites you to stroll. A walk along the Alster is the calm counterpart to the buzz of the harbour and pairs well with a visit to the Rathausmarkt.
Half a day is enough for the highlights
About four to five hours are enough for the essentials. A proven plan: the Landungsbruecken and Speicherstadt in the morning, a fish roll by the water, then the Alster and the city centre. Because the distances are short and the U-Bahn and S-Bahn run frequently, you stay flexible. Store your luggage in a locker at the main station so your hands are free.
Then relax on the way to HAM
Hamburg Airport sits around 8.5 kilometres north of the city centre in Fuhlsbuettel. From the centre you reach the terminal in roughly 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. Instead of squeezing into a crowded S-Bahn with your suitcase at the end of your day, a private transfer picks you up right where you are, at your hotel, at the Speicherstadt or on the Jungfernstieg.
The big advantage: you book a fixed price from 98 euros that you see before the ride, with no taxi meter. The driver takes you door to door right to Terminal 1 or Terminal 2. Especially when travelling with family, lots of luggage or a group, this is the most relaxed option. For 1 to 19 people there are vehicles from economy cars to a minibus, and you simply add child seats during booking.
How booking works
Flughafentransfer.Hamburg is a booking portal: the ride itself is carried out by local, licensed drivers arranged through our partner Kiwitaxi. The available payment methods and the binding terms are shown during the booking process. On the way back from HAM it works the same way: the driver waits for you with a name sign at arrivals, and thanks to 90 minutes of included waiting time everything stays relaxed, even if you need a little longer at baggage claim.
Practical tips for your last day
- Allow enough buffer: for a short sightseeing day, be at the terminal an hour earlier.
- Book the transfer in advance so the car is on time at your chosen address.
- Enter your flight number when booking so any delay is taken into account.
- Travelling with a pet? A transport box is allowed, just let us know in advance.
That way you get the best of both worlds: a few unforgettable hours between the harbour, the canals and the Alster, followed by a predictable, comfortable ride to Hamburg Airport. Enjoy Hamburg until the last minute, your driver takes care of the rest.
