Experience Hamburg before your flight
Do you have time to spare before your return flight, or a stopover in Hamburg? Then make the most of the hours before departure. The city keeps its biggest sights close together, so you can see a lot even with a suitcase in tow. The classics: Landungsbruecken, Speicherstadt and the Alster
If you are seeing Hamburg for the first time, start at the Landungsbruecken piers in St. Pauli. Here you breathe in harbour air, watch the big ships and find the Old Elbe Tunnel. A walk along the Alster is the calm counterpart to the buzz of the harbour and pairs well with a visit to the Rathausmarkt.
Half a day is enough for the highlights
About four to five hours are enough for the essentials. A proven plan: the Landungsbruecken and Speicherstadt in the morning, a fish roll by the water, then the Alster and the city centre. Because the distances are short and the U-Bahn and S-Bahn run frequently, you stay flexible. Store your luggage in a locker at the main station so your hands are free.
Then relax on the way to HAM
Hamburg Airport sits around 8.5 kilometres north of the city centre in Fuhlsbuettel. From the centre you reach the terminal in roughly 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic.
