About Airport & Hamburg-Nord hotels
Hamburg Airport lies in Fuhlsbüttel in the north of the city, about 9 km from the centre. Around it are residential districts such as Langenhorn and Alsterdorf, the office district City Nord and, further west in Stellingen, Hagenbeck Zoo.
Right by the terminals: do you need a ride at all?
Two hotels stand on Flughafenstraße, practically opposite the terminals. If you travel light, you can walk. A booked transfer is worth it with heavy luggage, small children, in pouring rain, or when you are heading from the airport hotel into town or further afield.
- Radisson Blu Hotel Hamburg Airport – Flughafenstraße, directly opposite the terminals and about four minutes on foot; the car stops at the hotel entrance.
- Courtyard by Marriott Hamburg Airport – Flughafenstraße, under a kilometre from the terminals; drop-off in front of the hotel.
- Motel One Hamburg-Airport – Alsterkrugchaussee, south of the airport; around 15 minutes on foot with cases, a few minutes by car.
- Best Western Premier Alsterkrug Hotel – Alsterkrugchaussee in Alsterdorf, on the main road into town; stop at the hotel front.
Further hotels around the airport
Three of these hotels line the Langenhorner Chaussee west of the airport, one is on the Alsterkrugchaussee and one sits just over the city boundary in Norderstedt:
- Leonardo Hotel Hamburg Airport – Langenhorner Chaussee in Langenhorn, around 2 to 3 km from the terminals; drop-off at the entrance.
- Hotel Cockpit Hamburg – Langenhorner Chaussee in Langenhorn; kerbside stop on the main road.
- Kocks Hotel Garni Hamburg Airport – Langenhorner Chaussee, further south towards Fuhlsbüttel; small hotel, kerbside stop.
- B&B HOTEL Hamburg-Airport – Alsterkrugchaussee, roughly 1 to 2 km south of the terminals; straightforward arrival right up to the building.
- Airport Plaza Hotel Hamburg – Südportal in Norderstedt, north of the runway; close as the crow flies but not walkable, about five minutes by car.
From any of these hotels the drive to the terminals usually takes 5 to 15 minutes.
City Nord and Hagenbeck
- Leonardo Hotel Hamburg City Nord – Mexikoring in the City Nord office district; wide streets, easy stop at the entrance.
- Holiday Inn Hamburg City Nord – Kapstadtring in City Nord; stop at the hotel entrance.
- Lindner Hotel Hamburg Hagenbeck, part of JdV by Hyatt – in Stellingen, right next to Hagenbeck Zoo; forecourt at the hotel.
City Nord is about 5 km from the terminals, normally 10 to 20 minutes. Hagenbeck lies about 9 to 11 km west, 20 to 30 minutes via Groß Borstel and Lokstedt. Our Hagenbeck page covers the zoo itself.
How pickup at the terminal works
Your driver meets you inside at the meeting point at HAM named in your confirmation, not at the hotel shuttle stops. Terminals 1 and 2 are connected through the Airport Plaza; if you are unsure which one you use, see Terminal 1 or 2.
Hamburg Airport has night-time restrictions: regular flights operate between 6 am and 11 pm, with later landings only for delays. If you arrive close to midnight, our late-night transfer page explains what to expect. Your flight number lets the driver follow your actual landing.
When the north gets busy
The Alsterkrugchaussee is the main road between the airport and the inner city, and it slows down on weekday mornings towards town and in the late afternoon outwards. The junctions on the Ring 2 at Deelbögenkamp and Jahnring are typical bottlenecks. City Nord fills with commuters from about 7:30 to 9 am and empties after 5 pm; at weekends it is almost deserted.
Around Hagenbeck, school holidays and sunny weekends bring many day visitors, and roadworks on the A7 around Stellingen can affect the approach. For hotels in Eppendorf or Winterhude, see our Eppendorf and Winterhude page.

Early departures from the north
For a 6 am flight, a pickup at 4:30 to 5 am from City Nord or Hagenbeck is usually enough, as the roads are empty. From the hotels around the airport, 10 minutes of driving is realistic. Book the return with the hotel as pickup address and add the time your airline recommends for check-in.
Groups who stay at an airport hotel before a long trip can also book a minivan or minibus straight to the cruise terminals or to the coast. The total price for the vehicle is shown before you book.
