About HAM to Eppendorf & Winterhude
Eppendorf and Winterhude are among Hamburg's most popular residential districts, known for their Gründerzeit buildings, canals and cafés. The Stadtpark on Winterhude's eastern edge, laid out in the early 20th century, is home to the Planetarium, an open-air stage and a natural lake.
Fifteen minutes to the Altbau quarters
Both districts lie about 5 to 8 km south of the terminals. Your driver takes Alsterkrugchaussee toward Eppendorf or turns east toward Winterhude and the Stadtpark. Off-peak, 15 to 20 minutes is normal; on weekday mornings, when commuters pour into the city on the same roads, allow 25 to 35. The total price for the whole vehicle is shown before you book, so a short trip is just as easy to plan as a long one.
Hamburg Airport to Eppendorf
Eppendorf is a quarter of white-fronted apartment houses, boutiques and cafés around Eppendorfer Baum, Eppendorfer Landstraße and Lehmweg. Many side streets are one-way, and parking is scarce, so your driver will often stop at a corner rather than outside the door. On the border with Harvestehude, the Isemarkt stretches under the elevated U3 track on Isestraße on Tuesday and Friday mornings; the street is crowded then, so pick a drop-off at either end.
Many visitors come for the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) on Martinistraße. The campus is large, with several entrances, so give the clinic or building name in your booking and allow extra time for the walk inside.
Hamburg Airport to Winterhude
Winterhude runs from the Alster canals to the Stadtpark. Around Mühlenkamp you find restaurants and small shops; further east, the brick blocks of the Jarrestadt surround Kampnagel, the performance venue on Jarrestraße. For stage and concert venues across the city see theatres, opera and concert halls.
One street catches out visitors: Sierichstraße, the long, straight link between Winterhude and the Alster, is a one-way street that changes direction during the day, toward the city in the morning and outward in the afternoon. Your driver knows this, but if your address is on it, do not be surprised if the car approaches from a parallel street.
Hamburg Airport transfer to the Planetarium in the Stadtpark
The Planetarium Hamburg sits in a former water tower on the western edge of the Stadtpark, a landmark visible from far across the park. Shows run at fixed times and are often sold out, so book seats before you fly and plan a buffer after landing. Cars cannot drive through the park itself; your driver takes you as close as the roads allow, from where a short footpath leads to the tower. U3 Borgweg is the nearest underground station if you return by train.
The Stadtpark also hosts the summer open-air concerts on its stage and the natural swimming lake, so warm evenings bring more traffic to the surrounding streets.
Hotels and stays nearby
The northern districts have fewer large hotels than the centre, but plenty of apartments and smaller guest houses. For hotel options close to the airport and in Hamburg-Nord, see airport and Hamburg-Nord hotels. Staying by the water instead? The Outer Alster page covers the lakeside streets just south of Winterhude.

Good to mention when you book
- For the UKE: the clinic or building, and whether someone needs help walking.
- For the Planetarium: the show time, so the drop-off leaves room to find your seats.
- For private addresses: the entrance, especially for courtyard flats behind the front building.
- Child seats, if you are travelling with young children.
Where to meet your driver at the terminal is explained on the meeting point page.
